ABOUT MAD PRIDE DAY
JULY 15, 2023 – BATTERY PARK, BURLINGTON, VT – 1 PM TO 4 PM
Vermont Mad Pride Day is a march and celebration organized by psychiatric survivors, consumers, neurodivergent folks, mad people, and folks the world has labeled “mentally ill.” Mad Pride is about shedding shame, challenging discrimination, advocating for rights, affirming mad identifies, remembering and participating in mad history, and having fun. Our lives and contributions are valuable and need celebration. The 2023 Vermont Mad Pride Day celebration will be held on July 15, 2023, in Burlington, Vermont. The day’s activities will include a march, guest speakers, spoken word, music, food and drink, and more! Confirmed speakers include Robert Whitaker, author of Mad in America, and Sera Davidow, Director of the Wildflower Alliance in western Massachusetts. Assembly will begin after 12 PM at the Hood Plant Parking Lot located on King Street between South Winooski Avenue and Church Street (at the rear of 187 South Winooski Avenue). The March will leave the Hood Plant Parking Lot at 1 PM. The March will proceed up Church Street to Pearl Street and into Battery Park. The program will begin at 2 PM and run into 4 PM, giving time for folks to shop and enjoy Burlington before heading home. ASL interpretation will be provided.
