We Won!

May 29, 2024. It is a perhaps a stretch to say we won, but William was ordered freed after the hearing at which at least 15 MindFreedom Shield supporters of William attended by Zoom.  Unlike most lawyers in these cases, starkly demonstrated by the ones before William’s, Tamara Barney did a terrific job putting up a defense.  This was unusual enough for the judge to remark about the quality of the hearing.  A couple of people replaced their normal profile pictures with “Free William Mahler” signs. It is hard to know if MindFreedom’s presence helped, but the judge certainly knew a bunch of people were observing what she was doing.  If you were at the hearing you can leave your observations in the comments below.

Reminder:  William Mahler Court Hearing May 29th

May 27, 2024.  This is to remind you there will be a court hearing this Wednesday, May 29th, you can attend via Zoom to support William Mahler being freed from the “hospital” in Worcester, Massachusetts.  William Maher has been pushed into psych hospitals since the death of his mother a few years ago, further disrupting his life instead of respecting him and the grief he was going through. He is hoping to get back to doing landscaping work this summer, and would love to hear from more of the MindFreedom community.

Fortunately, you can support William from anywhere, by attending his hearing by Zoom!  The idea is to show the court that people support freeing William and are watching what the judge does. This will hopefully have a beneficial effect.

The court is conducting multiple hearings that day. The first hearing is scheduled to start at 9 AM Eastern Time. William’s hearing is likely to start around 10 or 11 AM Eastern Time. If you have the time, though, you might find it interesting to watch from the beginning to see how the cases are conducted, and that way you can be sure not to miss William’s hearing.

(We’ve also been informed that it’s possible, but less likely, that William’s hearing may be pushed to the later court session that goes from 2:00 – 4:30 Eastern Time.)

So on Wednesday, May 29, go to:

One thing you can do is change your zoom name that day to “[Name] for William Mahler”. The court clerk will likely have observers mute their microphones. If asked, you can say you are there for Willliam Mahler’s hearing. It may also be possible to leave messages of support for William in the zoom chat.  One thing you can do for sure is post your observations in the comments below.

Many of you turned out recently to David Russell’s court hearing, and helped successfully push the Mayo Clinic to stop electroshocking him against his will! Let’s show up with the same strength for William – we have a real chance to make a big difference this week.

Update:  Hearing Put off Until May 29th

April 30, 2024.  We just heard from William’s lawyer that the hearing has been rescheduled for May 29th.

  1. William, so happy for you! Best of luck with everything. Everyone, what do you think about sending cards to Tamara Barney, Esq., Supervising Attorney. Worcester Commitment Unit 340 Main St., Ste. 7067. Worcester, MA 01608? It’s rare for a lawyer to genuinely represent their client during such hearings. It’s a great contrast between Tamara and the guy who was appointed to “represent” my daughter (who is fine now, but not thanks to the lawyer)

  2. MindFreedom THANK YOU!!!!!!!
There is so much to do and say with a genuine smile today.

“Free William Mahler” 2x as signs on video LOL and about 15-20 supporters online with a friend of mine in attendance helped sway the judge.

I’ve known Tamara for more than a decade and she’s always won.

In fact, no one had won before.

    Thank you, God Bless

  3. William is an experienced landscaper with a lot of pent up, physical energy. In previous meetings, while in this highly restricted facility, I noticed he paced back and forth. Doesn’t it make more sense for someone like William to be living independently in the community, being gainfully employed, paying taxes, and enjoying unlimited access to fresh air and sunshine? This makes much more sense than rather being incarcerated in a facility with limited space, a dayroom where the central activity is watching television and being denied access to his favorite outdoor activities. His incarceration is costing taxpayers roughly $100,000 per patient annually.

  4. With lived experience, mental health patients know first-hand the dehumanizing treatment as outpatients and within facilities, yet research from neuroscience and other disciplines reveal the scientific truth about mental disturbances as a typical nervous breakdown from chronic stress and anxiety OR, like me, an ultra-rare inborn error (schizophrenia) that increased the chances of experiencing these nervous breakdowns. These mental disturbances are not degenerative diseases, but a physical weakness of the brain.

Psychiatry is a God-sized problem to which He will soon release the wrecking ball (rolling stone, a Cornerstone). Organizations like MindFreedom will be greatly needed to serve the victims/survivors coming out of psychiatric slavery in the near future. Drug Withdrawal is a multiyear endeavor for those on the highly addictive antipsychotics (Dr. Peter R. Breggin). May the Creator God enlighten and financially bless the leaders at these altruistic organizations.

  5. Grief is not a disease, and psychiatric imprisonment is not treatment. Give William his freedom and let him work through his pain with loving help.
