ALTERNATIVE MENTAL HEALTH RADIO
Tina Minkowitz and Eva Dech — two dynamic organizers behind the “Stop Psychiatric Profiling” Campaign — and guest host Celia Brown discuss the threat of public policy initiatives (like the NY SAFE Act) to the rights of any person with a psychiatric label. With the current push to expand diagnostic criteria to include virtually ALL members of our society, this is an issue that concerns every American citizen!
Legislation in multiple states proposes to:
– expand forced outpatient commitment laws
– create databases of people who have received psychiatric labels
– conduct street “round ups” of individuals perceived to be “mentally ill,” like the one that recently took place in NYC.
Minkowitz, Dech, and other “STOP PSYCHIATRIC PROFILING” activists are using a variety of creative methods to draw public attention to these human rights abuses, and will be sharing information on how MindFreedom volunteers, members, and supporters can get involved in their important campaign!
