About the film:
Eleanor Longden was a young college student when she began hearing voices. She turned to the mental health system for help, but misguided treatment soon led to things getting much worse. She was led to believe recovery couldn’t happen, and mental health stigma amplified by voices that were now persecutory encouraged despair and serious self harm.
Fortunately, she went on to meet people who helped change her perspective, and then with her own efforts made a complete recovery. She is now an award winning psychologist working for reform within the mental health system.
In this film, she tells her own story frankly and often with humor, offering surprising insights into the experience of hearing voices, “madness,” and both ineffective and effective mental health care.
