From West Chester University poster:

David W. Oaks is a leader in the international social change movement led by “psychiatric survivors,” also known as the “Mad Movement.” This is his 31st year working as a human rights activist to transform mental health care. “What’s changed in 31 years,” says David, “is that now this issue touches almost every family.” He was a working class scholarship student attending Harvard University in the 1970’s when psychiatrists diagnosed him “schizophrenic” and “bipolar,” forcibly injected him, and told him a “chemical imbalance” would require psychiatric drugging for the rest of his life.

They were proven wrong. While at Harvard, David wrote his senior paper about the experience. David graduated with honors in 1977 and fully recovered using non-drug alternatives. For the past 20 years, he has directed Mind Freedom International (MFI), a non-profit coalition that is the only group of its kind.

The MindFreedom vision is a nonviolent revolution of freedom and choice in the mental health system. David will be talking about mental health as a civil rights movement & what is really normal in today’s society,
