Toronto was just one of the places that held Mad Pride 2012 events, but what an amazing collection of events over five days! This is inspiring for you to hold your own Mad Pride event. Any time is good, but think “July 2013,” because that’s mad Pride Month!

Mad Pride Toronto 2012: A Celebration of Madness

Tuesday, July 10 to Sunday, July 15

by Mad Pride Toronto

Mad Pride is an arts, culture, and heritage festival created by psychiatric survivors, consumers, mad people, folks the world has labelled “mentally ill”, and those in solidarity with us.

Mad Pride is about:

  • remembering and participating in mad history
  • challenging discrimination
  • advocating for rights
  • affirming mad identities
  • developing and empowering mad communities
  • having fun!

Our lives and contributions are valuable and need celebration!

All events are free. Festivities include educational talks/panels, theatre, music, art, poetry, comedy, films, craft/vendor sales, information booths, a Mad Hatter Tea Party, and more.

There will be a Bed Push Parade from 1001 Queen Street West (CAMH) to 1499 Queen Street West (PARC) starting at noon on Saturday, July 14. This parade signifies our escape from asylums back into the community.

For the latest schedule of events, visit our website at www.madprideto.com or subscribe to the Consumer/Survivor Information Bulletin at www.csinfo.ca.

Can’t get to Mad Pride Toronto this year? Celebrate where you are!

Consider having a pajama party, letting your inner crazy out for the day, making and wearing mad gear like a costume or hat, creating a chant or anthem or slogan, howling at the moon. Or perhaps orchestrate a DSM book shredding, defacing, editing, rewriting or try your hand at DSM paper mache, origami, paper airplanes. If you’d like, have someone take a photo of your Mad Pride festivities and send them to us at outreach@madprideto.com for display on our website.
