About Our Support Coalition

We at MindFreedom International (MFI) aim to build an alliance of grassroots organizations characterized by mutual empowerment and support, hereafter referred to as a Support Coalition.

Our Support Coalition consists of two primary groups: Sponsors and Affiliates.

• A Sponsor is a pre-existing organization (typically an independent nonprofit organization or a community-based organization) that agrees to support and endorse MFI’s goals. One example is the National Association for Rights Protection and Advocacy.

• An Affiliate functions as a chapter of MFI and therefore uses the MindFreedom name. For example, our largest affiliates are currently MindFreedom Ghana and MindFreedom Ireland.

Both Sponsors and Affiliates support the mission and goals of MFI, receive the same benefits as outlined below, and have an assigned Liaison (contact person) on our Support Coalition Advisory Council, which provides suggestions to our Board of Directors about strategy and campaigns.

While MFI itself happens to be led mostly by psychiatric survivors and critical mental health care consumers, Sponsor and Affiliate groups are not required to be. We are open to all who support human rights.

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback regarding sponsorship or affiliation, please contact our office at

office@mindfreedom.org.

Benefits of Joining

Upon becoming an MFI Sponsor or Affiliate, your group or organization will:

• Gain a boost in publicity by being listed in the Sponsor and Affiliate Directory on MFI’s website.

• Gain access to MFI’s Support Coalition meetings, workshops, and webinars.

• Be included in MFI’s online event planning.

• Receive invitations from MFI to network with its board of directors, office, members, and other Sponsors.

• Receive notifications from MFI about local campaigns or issues of interest to you.

Of course, the primary value of sponsorship and affiliation is fostering unity and building strength in numbers!
