Free Training in Eugene, Oregon

Building Alliances to AMPLIFY the Voice of Mental Health Clients:

Drawing on the Strengths of the Cross-Disability Movement to Empower Mental Health Consumers/Survivors

When: Thursday, 11 June 2009. This half-day training is from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Where: Downtown Athletic Club, 999 Willamette Street, Eugene, Oregon.

Presenters:

  • Intro by: Robert Bernstein, PhD Executive Director, Bazelon Center, Washington, D.C.
  • Bjo Ashwill, MS, LPC – Counselor for Lane Independent Living Alliance (LILA).
  • Tracey Dumas, PhD – Psychiatric survivor, co-founder of Opal Network, founder of VALID: Violence and Abuse in the Lives of Individuals with Disabilities.
  • David Oaks – Psychiatric survivor, and Director of MindFreedom International.
  • Claire Seminara, MApc, CPRP – Mental Health Professional and Professional Counselor for LILA’s LAMHP program.

For two years, the Opal Network has met quarterly to support the empowerment and self-determination of Lane County mental health clients. This training is to teach attendees about this model of successful collaboration locally and state-wide.

This event is meant for leaders and emerging leaders, especially:

  • Cross-disability agencies.
  • Cross-disability consumers.
  • Any agency or professional who works with mental health clients.
