I recently returned to MFI after having left for a year. A lot has changed. Most notably, David Oaks, founder of MFI and long-time revolutionary, had to leave after a serious injury last winter. Of course, the office does not feel the same without his vibrant and creative energy.
But things have not been dull. We still receive countless calls from individuals needing help on a daily basis. Like days before, we still hear stories of people struggling with forced and coerced “treatments.”
Thankfully, we have been able to rely on members who have made themselves available to call folks in these difficult situations, lending a compassionate ear or sometimes helping draft a human rights alert.
For those of you who have come forward to share your time and humanity in this way, thank you. You help MindFreedom offer hope to people in dark moments. I think many of us appreciate how it feels to be in a situation where we need an ally or advocate. It can make all the difference.
