A public memorial service for Andrew Martinez, known around the world as “The Naked Guy,” is scheduled for Sunday in Cupertino.
Martinez, who killed himself May 18 after a battle with schizophrenia, garnered many headlines and television appearances after he started going to class nude at the University of California-Berkeley in the early 1990s. He said he believed clothes were a symbol of elitism and repression.
A San Jose native, Martinez, 33, graduated from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, where he played football and wrestled.
The memorial is set for 2 to 5 p.m. at Rancho Rinconada Recreation Center, 18000 Chelmsford Drive, Cupertino.
