A brief report on the vigil held for Esmin Green in Cork, Ireland in July, 2008.
Cork Vigil for Esmin Green R.I.P.
We had a small group of just 10 people at our vigil in Cork – Martin, Maria, Lydia, Omar, Eileen, Deidre, Dominic, Kevin, Jim and Mary.
We remembered Emsin and were aware we were part of an international movement for Freedom, Equality, Truth and Human Rights in what is known as the ‘mental health’ system.
Martin read a background account of the plight of Emsin and Lydia read three of her poems – ‘Revolver Doors’, ‘Twice Daily’ and ‘Displacement’ accompanied by Mary on the piano. You can read these poems in our poetry section.
This was followed by some discussion and Kevin sang and played guitar. At the end we held hands in a circle and remembered Emsin and all victims of psychiatry.
In support,
Mary Maddock.
