Guy “Tony” Brooks is a bold advocate and activist dedicated to the fight for independent living and cross-disability solidarity. Originally born in Ghana, Tony celebrated a major personal milestone in July 2025 when he became a proud American citizen.
Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tony serves as a key leader within ADAPT, one of the nation’s premier grassroots groups organizing for the rights of people with disabilities. Tony does not just advocate for independent living; he embodies its success. After being liberated from an institution in 2012, Tony transitioned to life in the community, residing happily in Accessible Affordable Integrated Housing.
Tony helps lead the charge at ADAPT and serves on the Board of Mindfreedom International to ensure that every individual has the right to live freely in their own community without force or Harm. Tony is passionate about uniting mental health consumers and survivors with the broader disability movement to amplify their collective power and achieve liberty for all.
