Marybeth Dorn was the Ramsey County District Probate Judge who, in
December 2008, ordered to continue forced electroshock (also called ECT or electroconvulsive therapy) and neuroleptic drugging of Ray.

The December hearing in Region’s Hospital basement, according to eye witnesses, was inherently unfair. The court-appointed attorney did not call any expert witness who would support Ray’s position to end forced electroshock. Individuals present who were willing to testify in support of Ray were not called.

Teresa R. Warner is the Ramsey County District probate Judge who on June 18, 2008, signed the initial order for forced ECT and neuroleptic drugging of Ray. Because of MindFreedom’s campaign on behalf of Ray, he was granted a new hearing in December 2008, and Marybeth Dorn was the judge that time. She ruled against him.

Both judge’s positions are elected.

However, Ms. Dorn was appointed in July 2002 by Governor Jesse Ventura. Her current term expires 2010, when she would face re-election if she chooses to run.
