Since Mr. Bertonlino’s psychiatric incarceration on September 20, he has been seen by over a dozen staff professionals at Community Bridges, who consistently found him not to harbor current dangerous thoughts/behaviors toward self or others; not to be “[p]hysically combative and/or threatening”; and not “[u]nable to care for self due to mental health condition.” Both MindFreedom’s Dr. Albert Galves, PhD, and Dr. Nicholas D. Lawson, M.D., J.D., have evaluated Mr. Bertonlino and found the same.

Mr. Bertonlino is nevertheless being held against his will and found by Community Bridges officials Drs. Lee and Listengarten

to have a “thought disorder” because he does not want to be involuntarily committed and forcibly treated with antipsychotics, which in the past, have caused him to experience severe adverse reactions, have not helped him, and have only caused him harm. We at MindFreedom do not believe Bertonlino has such a “thought disorder,” and he certainly does not have a “thought disorder” for not wanting to be involuntarily committed and forcibly treated with antipsychotics.

While Mr. Bertonlino has been painted as a threat to public safety and a potential mass shooter at schools, he hasn’t owned a firearm in years, has no intention of obtaining weapons or firearms, has never seriously entertained the possibility of engaging in behavior endangering public safety, and would never engage in such behavior if he were released. We believe him.

We think these emails represent the relevant key employees at Community Bridges with control over Mr. Bertonlino and his situation and strongly encourage you to contact them all in order to secure his timely release.

  1. Dear Community Bridges Psychiatric Team,

I am a member of the psychiatric rights organization MindFreedom International. I am writing to you to show my support and express my concern for your inpatient Christopher Bertonlino. I am requesting that you amend his course of treatment to minimize forced drugging and discharge him as soon as possible. It is my understanding from this Shield Alert that he is only being held on the basis of what others said about him or things he said well in the past.

If you truly believe Chris Bertonlino is a danger to society and want him to cooperate, then my advice is to first show him some respect. Show him you are the bigger person, not that you have the bigger hammer. Replace the antipsychotics with psychotherapy. Through psychotherapy, (such as ACT, CBT/MBCT and DBT), he can gain the tools to see for himself that he has a thought disorder and work through his dysfunctional thoughts. Once he begins to see the benefits of psychotherapy, he should be released to continue it on an outpatient basis.

And unlike medication, the benefits of psychotherapy are permanent. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,

    Kenneth Beitler

  2. He escrito para que liberen a Bertonlino siguiendo las indicaciones recomendadas (Siempre con educación y respeto)
