HELP FREE ADAM BRUCKSHAW-LOVAINE FROM PSYCHIATRIC INCARCERATION AND FORCED DRUGGING IN ROCHDALE, ENGLAND
Adam Bruckshaw-Iovaine (formerly known as Adam David Nugent) is currently being psychiatrically detained at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale, England, and is being administered antipsychotic drugs against his will.
Adam was initially forced into psychiatric detention under false pretenses by individuals with whom he was engaged in legitimate business competition. Prior to leaving the United Kingdom, he discontinued the abusive medication he had been compelled to take. He then travelled to Spain and the Netherlands for professional business purposes. While in the Netherlands, he was wrongfully detained and subsequently sent back to Rochdale, where his involuntary detention continues.
There is no evidence or lawful basis to suggest that Adam poses any risk to himself or to others. Under the United Kingdom’s Mental Health Act, those are the only legitimate criteria for psychiatric detention. His ongoing confinement and forced medication are therefore unjustified and unlawful.

I sent an e-mail to the “complaint “ address. Can’t cut and paste here as I’m on my iPad having left the AppleMac at home. I simply said holding him is a violation of his legal and moral rights, and asked for his release.
Dear Patient Rights Advocacy Teams: Pennine Care Complaint Resolution, Patient Advice Liaison Services, Rochdale Social Services, and Community Mental Health Team
I am a member of the psychiatric rights organization MindFreedom International, MFI. I am writing to you to show my support and express my concern for Adam Bruckshaw-Iovaine, currently being sectioned at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale, England and administered antipsychotic drugs against his will. He is requesting that they amend his course of treatment to minimize forced drugging and discharge him as soon as possible. I am also requesting an investigation into his treatment by hospital staff.
It took me several tries to reach Adam by phone. The only number I called that worked was +44 1706676118. When I called the ward between 6-7pm London Time, I reached the nurses at their office. The nurses were very polite. The first one said she notified Adam I called, but insisted I was not allowed to speak to him on their office phone. On each attempt, they gave me another number to call, but whatever number they gave would not work. Some of the nurses said it is possible the ward phone was not working. Others said Adam has a working cell phone I can call, but did not give me his phone number. On my third call to the above number, I reached another nurse who fortunately said she had been in the office during that time and understood the situation. I explained to that nurse that I had yet to send the emails included in Adam’s Shield Alert (similar to Amnesty International’s Urgent Actions) and now I had something to say. I explained that while they might have the right to detain Adam, they cannot prevent him from receiving calls from the outside. I explained that it does not matter whether Adam has a working cell phone or his ward’s phone is not working. Then the nurse transferred my call and it went through.
I was finally able to speak with Adam briefly and I am concerned about some of his claims. First, he said he is only being held on the basis of what psychiatric staff in the Netherlands said about him before his repatriation to England. He said that Birch Hill Staff did not give him a separate evaluation upon his return. Second, they are using sleep deprivation as coercion. As soon as he falls asleep, they shine a light on his face or knock on his door and ask whether he is okay. Prolonged sleep deprivation can inhibit learning, focusing, and reacting. In other words, it can make him dumber, more docile and hence easier to manage. Third, their only treatment is forced drugging. He says his psychiatrist, Dr. Faiz, is trying many different drug combinations and is clueless. If Dr. Faiz is correct that Adam needs to be drugged and has access to Adam’s psychiatric history, then you would think that he would know which drugs worked and would have stabilized Adam by now. At minimum, he should know the extent to which sleep deprivation will slow or limit Adam’s improvement. Since these are strong drugs with serious side effects, Adam is refusing some of them in protest. Hospital staff gave him those drugs by forced injection. They are not offering him psychotherapy and not listening to anything he says.
As an active member of MFI and researcher of psychiatric abuse, I have seen it all. I understand that if Adam is paranoid and going through psychosis, then his human-rights objections to his treatment could be fictitious, but seem very real to him. He called their treatment torture and for him it is. I have also read about cases of psychiatric abuse that are worse than what Adam is claiming. The truth is usually somewhere in between and therefore Adam’s claims merit an investigation. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,
Kenneth Beitler
Hello:
I am a member of MindFreedom and an active contributor to the Shield.
I am writing because Adam Bruckshaw-Iovaine has been detained under false pretenses by people with whom he engaged in legitimate business competition.
Since Adam does not pose a danger to himself or others, and the reasons for his detention are illegal, I would like to ask you to release him.
Without further ado, I bid you farewell.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Francisco Miralles Serrano
I ask you to free the above-named patient who is being held and drugged against his will. Forced psychiatric “care” is more akin to tactics used in the former Soviet Union than in free society.
I am a clinical psychologist with 43 years of experience.
Thank you.
